King's Church is a lively charismatic church. What this means is that our singing is usually loud and enthusiastic and we use much modern material. This is usually led by musicians playing guitars, drums, etc. It also means that we believe that God speaks to people today and we want to give ourselves opportunities to hear him. Members of the congregation will often pray out loud, read scripture or maybe start a song themselves.
Somewhat more disconcerting are what we call "manifestations of the spirit". These may include speaking or singing in strange languages , odd noises or lying on the floor for extended periods. These can be God's way of breaking through our genteel, middle-class Britishness which can be a major barrier to our spiritual lives.
You are under no obligation to participate in any of this and are at liberty to ignore it or leave at any time. God will not force himself on someone who is not willing and open to him. However, the really exciting (and scariest) thing is when God speaks to you in some way through this. If that happens to you, or even if it doesn't. and you would like someone to pray for you, just ask. It is quite common to go out to the front for prayer but if you would prefer not to you can be prayed for where you are or in a private room if necessary.
